Volunteer Roanoke Valley celebrates National Volunteer Week
National Volunteer Week is April 18-24. Volunteer Roanoke Valley is now accepting nominations for recognition of volunteers in the community. The deadline to nominate an individual or organization is March 19, and a reception will be held on April 20. Here is a press release from Volunteer Roanoke Valley
Established in 1974, National Volunteer Week has grown exponentially in scope each year, drawing the support and endorsement of all subsequent U.S. presidents, governors, mayors, and other respected elected officials.
This year, Volunteer Roanoke Valley is also honored to recognize the one-year anniversary of the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act.
National Volunteer Week 2010 presents ans opportunity for individuals, families, nonprofit organizations, and government entities alike to celebrate the ordinary people who accomplish extraordinary things through service.
National Volunteer Week embodies the energy and power volunteers evoke on a daily basis as they lead by example – not only encouraging the people they help, but motivating others to serve as well.
This year, Volunteer Roanoke Valley will honor local volunteers at a reception on April 20th at Vinton War Memorial. Invitations to the event will be sent out at a later date.
Please consider nominating a volunteer or group of volunteers in the following categories:
- Youth (6-18)
- Adult (19-59)
- Senior (60+)
- Family
- Faith-based Group
- Educational Institution (K-12, College, University)
- Community Organization
- Business/Corporation
- Volunteer Coordinator/Manager
