Wendy’s donates over $14,000 to Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank

The Southwestern Virgina Second Harvest Food Bank received a large donation from the proceeds of Wendy’s Key Tag promotion. Here is a press release from the food bank:

Local Wendy’s representatives presented a check for $14,103.69 to the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank, the equivalent of more than 43,000 meals.

The donation was the result of Wendy’s Key Tag initiative, during which customers could purchase a $1 Frosty Key Tag and receive a free Jr. Frosty for an entire year with every Wendy’s purchase. Net proceeds from those Key Tags was donated to the Food Bank to assist with hunger relief efforts in Southwest Virginia.

“We are extremely grateful to have incredible partners like Wendy’s join us in our fight to end hunger,” said Pamela Irvine, President & CEO of the Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank. “Wendy’s developed this idea and ran with it and as you can see it’s going to have a huge impact on our hunger relief efforts. We’re so appreciative to all the Wendy’s customers who participated and we hope they all enjoy their free Jr. Frostys in 2010.”

“Dave Thomas believed that giving back and supporting our community is everyone’s responsibility,” said Sally Abshire, Wendy’s of Western Virginia franchisee.  “Wendy’s is involved in thousands of local events each year that lend a hand to those in need. This key tag fundraiser was one way of giving back to our community where we live and work.”
